Turin: design capital 2008
Lovers of beautiful and ingenious objects will be spoiled for choice this year in Turin, the World Design Capital for 2008. The busy calendar of exhibitions and events in the homeland of Fiat, the Olivetti typewriter Lettera 22 and the Pininfarina Cisitalia 202 include an exhibition of three hundred exclusive objects from the Alexander von Vegesack collection of the Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhine, documenting the development of 20th century design. Among the exhibits are the revolutionary curved wood chairs by Thonet, the “Mamma Donna” (“Mother-Woman”) armchair by Gaetano Pesce, plus items of furniture by leading designers such as Jean Prouvé, Charles and Ray Eames, Le Corbusier, Alvar Aalto, Mies van der Rohe, Ron Arad and Fernando and Humberto Campana.
The exhibition is held in the Pinacoteca Giovanni e Marella Agnelli until the 6th July.
