The Surgeon’s House, Rimini

7 gennaio 2008

Rimini’s House of the Surgeon, a Roman “domus” dating back two thousand years, is now open to the public. First discovered in 1989 while landscaping work was being carried out on a park in the heart of Italy’s liveliest Adriatic seaside resort, exploration of the 700 sq.metre site was finally completed in 2006. Protected by a huge glass roof, the ruins of the dwelling house and the surrounding streets and buildings belonging to the ancient town of Ariminum have already attracted a large number of visitors. The site is celebrated for the wealth of rare antiquities that has been discovered, including the most complete kit of surgical instruments and pharmaceutical apparatus ever to have been preserved from ancient times.
